Ho,Feb. 28, (Mensah) GNA-The Ho Municipal area has been free of armed robbery in the past six months, Mr David Nenyi Ampah-Bennin, Volta Regional Police Commander said on Friday.
The region however recorded 12 robberies in the fourth quarter of last year (2010) as against seven cases in the third quarter of the same year.
Mr Ampah-Bennin said this in an interaction with the GNA in Ho.
He said highway robbery has reduced drastically and that efforts were being made to reduce all forms of robberies to the barest minimum.
“This year will be an action year for us against criminals, road traffic offenders and people who deal in illegal drugs,” Mr Ampah-Bennin said.
He said the last quarter of 2010 saw six murder cases against seven in the third quarter, 34 defilement cases against 36 and six rape cases against seven.
Mr Ampah-Bennin said police in the region were devising innovative ways to combat crime and maintain peace and order for the region’s accelerated development and called for support from the public.
“We thank the public for its support over the years but we need more of such supports especially information on criminals so we can match them boot for boot,” he said.
