Medical Superintendents call for review of Health Insurance tariffs

Ho, Feb. 02, (Mensah), GNA-The Volta Region Division of the Medical Superintendents Group has called on the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) to review health insurance tariffs in place since 2008.
This is “to prevent already suffocating hospitals from total collapse.”
These were contained in a press release after the Group’s meeting on Wednesday, January 26, 2011 and signed by Dr. Kofi Gafatsi Normanya, its Chairman.
The Group also called for a review of the Ghana Diagnosis Related Groups (GDRG) to make them more comprehensive “in order to prevent unnecessary huge financial losses to service providers.”
“We call for payment of full cost of OPD attendance on first visit of each illness episode instead of the one-third currently being paid per visit” the release said.
Mr Elliot Nesto Acolatse, Volta Regional Manager of the NHIA told the GNA that the issues raised have been referred to the appropriate authorities in Accra.
