Price of cement up in Volta Region

Ho, May 31, (Kanyi/Mensah) GNA-The price of cement has increased in Ho, Hohoe and Aflao in the Volta region.
This is due to shortage of the commodity in the three major towns in the region.
In Ho the price went up from GHC12.00 to GHC15.00 and GHC 14.00 in Hohoe. The situation is the same in Aflao where the Diamond Cement Limited is located.
In Ho the commodity was available in only one store, Donwill which received limited supply on Tuesday and sold a bag for GHC15.00.
Many customers who rushed in to buy the commodity turned away complaining at the price hike.
Mr John Mokli, a Contractor in Hohoe told the GNA that there had been shortage of the commodity in the Municipality since the beginning of May.
He said limited supplies were being sold at GHC14.00 per bag.
Mr James John, Commercial Manager of Diamond Cement limited at Aflao attributed the shortage to the closure of the Lome Port in Togo for renovation.
He said the factory could therefore not get its supply of clinker through the Lome Port but through the Tema and Takoradi Ports in Ghana, a situation which was affecting the Company’s production level greatly.
He however assured that the situation would return to normal in a month’s time when the renovation works at the Lome Port were scheduled to be completed.
