900 people to be recruited for Youth in Road Maintenance in Volta Region

Ho, Jun 09, (Mensah), GNA- A total of 900 people in the Volta Region would be recruited into the Youth in Road Maintenance Module of the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP).
The Module would be executed in collaboration with Zeera Group of Companies.
The beneficiaries, whose main duties would be patching up potholes, clearing of choked gutters and weeding along roads would be in addition to over 15,000 beneficiaries of the NYEP in the region.
This was disclosed by Madam Jessie Ekumebu, Volta Regional NYEP Coordinator at the launch of the Module in Ho on Thursday.
She said since the assumption of office of the current government the number of modules of NYEP in the region had increased from six to 18 with beneficiaries increasing from 5,253 to 15,154 an increase of 142 percent.
“It is significant to note that the NYEP has improved over this short period of time and given a little more time, its impact on the youth will improve significantly”, she said.
Mr Joseph Amenowode, Volta Regional Minister who commended the Zeera Group for partnering with the NYEP called for more public-private partnerships to create more employment avenues for the youth.
Mr Isaac Kodobisah, Ho Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) said the Municipality alone had 1150 beneficiaries under 10 modules compared to 330 beneficiaries under four modules previously.
“The improvement is a testimony to the commitment of investing in the people and creating jobs”, he observed.
Alhaji Tapsoba, Deputy National Coordinator of NYEP in charge of Operations advised beneficiaries against drunkenness “warning that anyone found drunk on the job would be sacked as it is too dangerous to be drunk and working on a road at the same time”.
